Peter Ndlovu running for president in 2023 would be typical levels of weird

So a person who says he speaks on behalf of Peter Ndlovu claims the greatest footballer to come out of the country will run for president of Zimbabwe in 2023.

Sebastian Mubvumbi, who is the vice president of a non-descript entity called All People’s Party (APP), said that Ndlovu who is the first ever African to play in the English Premier League, would be going after Emmerson Mnangagwa’s job.

Now, we believe in freedom of expression, conscience and the works, but this would be so typically weird of Zimbabweans if true.

It is the short arm approach of many of us, that politics and the limelight define ambition.

Look, if he had been active in politics, like say, Liberia’s George Weah, we would be like, sure, but just coming out of nowhere, Dr Nkosana Moyo style, based on the belief that one is the saviour, is odd.

You see, there are a lot of things in Zimbabwe that need fixing. Even within his expertise, which is football and now its administration given his position at Mamelodi Sundowns, you can see where he can take that given the almost eldritch things happening over at Livingstone House.

Like dude, we do that a lot don’t we?

But then again, being an elected official is probably the only job which does not require one to be specifically qualified in anything, so it always looks like a better idea than doing things that actually fix problems. You know, things for which you actually need to be pre-skilled.

On the other hand, many run the politics route because that is the fastest route to fame isn’t it? After all, our politicians are the biggest celebrities around, Alick Macheso, Jah Prayzah and Winky D aside.

What that speaks to a specific problem. Zimbabwean experiences are so limited that they lac the perspective and language to differentiate between between major concepts.

In essence, that there are other ways to influence, other than politics. And that those influences have no need of ending up with politicisation as a result.

Now Peter Ndlovu himself has not said he will run for president. The last election had murmurs of him running so this could be all hot air.

Otherwise, it could be 30 people running for election with only _ with a chance of winning.
