Here is the reason you should put a dish with water in front of heater

There are common household tricks that have been passed down from one generation to the other but many never seem to ask the way.

One of them is putting a dish with water in front of a heater. And with the winter being here, if you have those Zesa units, you are going to switch on the heater to get that warmth in.

Well, there is actually a science to it. You see, when you have a heater on, in a closed room it sucks all the moisture out of the room which is bad for you. That is because the your skin, eyes, and a lot of you need moisture,

Carol Luscomb, a former Medical Assistant at Oncologist, Cardiologist, Urgent Care (1983-1989), have an interesting answer to this on Quora:

The idea is that the heat of the air from the heater will pull water from the dish into the air, thereby adding humidity to dry, indoor air. This was particularly used before furnaces and humidifiers were invented, and is still used occasionally in sickrooms where a chest cold or sinusitis is at work. The hot moist air will “loosen” the congestion and allow it to drain out of the head or chest.

Yep, so it isn’t because your granny said so. Your granny knew science.
