Bulawayo Public Library donates books to #100Bhuku campaign

More great news for the kids because the Bulawayo Public Library has just donated a bunch of books to the #100Bhuku campaign.

Bulawayo-based podcaster Valentine Makoni with books donated by the Bulawayo Public Library

It all came to life after #100Bhuku Southern Region Campaign Project Lead Tinashe Tafirenyika reached out to podcaster Valentine Makoni.

Valentine tells us the story:

Tinashe Tafirenyika is a good friend of mine, and even more so a phenomenal poet. She is the one who got me to know about the book donation. And I was immediately interested. A friend referred me to the library. It periodically donates books for an admin fee. Its the one that donated the books. I simply facilitated.

On why Valentine feels it is important for kids to read books for fun, he said:

It’s important coz there is exploration! Creativity, growth, personality comes from someone reading and finding their own self. Their own voices

The Bulawayo Public Library was opened on 31 March 1898 .In that opening month they were 320 subscribers, principally adult males. Today there are more than 10 000 subscribers, being males and females of all ages. It has a well stocked children’s library section.

And here is some more fun news. Because people have been so keen and drop-offs are still being accepted at Multichoice Zimbabwe offices until 14 January.

We are delighted with the support they have given along with Fresh In A Box, TRM Legal, Powerplay, Prowl Magazine as well as Tinashe Tafirenyika heading the southern region campaign and Trish Carmen helping logisitics along.

A special mention for our social butterfly Ancillar Dee who has been pivotal to this whole campaign.
