Beastie Boys Rapper Adam Yauch, Dead At 47

Beastie Boys rapper Adam Yauch has died at the age of 47. The musician, director and Tibet activist was diagnosed with salivary gland cancer in 2009.

The Beastie Boys were one of the longest-lived hip hop acts worldwide and they continued to enjoy commercial and critical success for more than 25 years.

The group has sold 22 million albums in the United States and 40 million albums worldwide, making them, according to Billboard, “the biggest-selling rap group” since 1991.

The Beastie Boys are widely credited to be one of the first rap groups to have begun the trend of wearing the Volkswagen (VW) car emblem on chains around their necks, which reportedly led to a rise in vandalised cars.

The Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month, but sadly Yauch was not able to attend.

R.I.P Adam and thank you for the music.
