5 Rules: Dressing Up For A Wedding

So supposing one of your people decides it is good idea to throw their life away  dedicate their entire existence to being incredibly happy and satisfied with another human being, legally.

We’ve been to a couple of these and well, you get all sorts of dressing from the girl with the satin to the one with the weird hat. There is also the fella with the weird thing going on, like he just walked out of a Sungura concert and came to the wedding.

There are however a few rules one has to take into consideration when one is a guest at a wedding.

Firstly, check the invite. Some invites come with instructions for colours and appropriate type of clothing for the wedding. Some want uber smart-formal-conservative while others will say casual. Note that even if they say casual, dress well, smart and all that. Be exceedingly presentable. It is a thing. If they do not specify what you should wear, ask.

Secondly, be mindful of the weather. We don’t want to be weird about this. And if it is summer, no mini skirts. It is not your day. We do not want that distraction. Knee-high ladies. And no opera or prom queen dresses.

Thirdly, know and understand your role in the wedding. If you are from the family, no flashy colours and that includes you, mom and dad.

Fourth recommendation, ladies… DO NOT WEAR WHITE.  No. No. No. Do we even need to explain that?

And finally gents, a jacket and tie (OK the rope around your neck is not super-necessary) would not kill you.  This is especially true if the wedding is in the evening. Even if it doesn’t say black tie, wear a dark suit. A tuxedo during the day is a bit weird though… Jeans and t-shirt… NO! Even if you are to wear, African-inspired print, make sure that it is on the formal end.

Whatever your wear doesn’t have to be super expensive. Know your style. If you are unsure, ask your girlfriend unless she has as much relation to that as a pig does to Tehn Diamond’s Happy. Exactly.

Dress up. That is all.
