The Zimbabwe Music Rights Association(ZIMURA) has just revoked the duty-free importation of musical instruments.
They posted this late on Monday…
Dear Members Please Be Advised That We Have Since Revoked The Duty Free Importation Of Musical Equipment Until Further Notice..
— ZIMURA (@ZimMusicRights) August 5, 2013
The music body has been battling with financial issues in recent years especially over the disbursement of royalties to its members.
This will hit some artists in a major way. Although we have seen the system abused – an artist using his membership to buy equipment for other people, taking a cut of it = a lot of artists were able to build their careers thanks to this facility.
We will give you an update on the decision as soon we know.
Update: Zimura has told us why they are now unable to offer the facility:
The Reason Is That The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority Has Since Suspended This Service Therefore We Cannot Assist Anymore..
