The Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima) date is finally here, with the ceremony happening at 7 Arts, Avondale, Harare on Saturday night.
Powerhouse personalities Becky K and Amard have been chosen as hosts for the latest edition.
Becky K says she is honoured, “I come alive, so to be co hosting the ZIMAs, means my gift, skill and talent are important and people are watching.”
For her part, Amard adds, “This is a very momentous for me. I remember when I started in media, I used to go to many shows and one of the first shows I wen to was the Zimas… For me the Zimas was one of the stages I always wanted to host on and it is now one of the four big stages and I am very excited. It’s like I’ve just come full circle.”
On working with Amard, Becky K said, “Amard ,yeah she’s a vibe. Outside this we actually get along which made it easier. I’m looking forward to hosting with her and hopefully we get to do it again.”
And Amard returned the compliment, “Look, you need to understand. When Rebecca and I come together, it’s just explosions, it’s laughs, it’s seamless professionalism at the same time. What seems like work for some people is fun and second nature for us.”
On the importance of the Zimas, Becky K said, “These Awards should be what the Grammys are in the US,the SAMAs in SA. We are saying well done and thank you to Zimbabwean musicians for blessing us and taking us on life’s journey through their music. I do however feel we do not give this event as much respect as it ought to receive. If we as industry or as as people do not hold it in high regard why should the rest of the World? I hope tonight will change all that.”
Amard agreed that awards needed to have the same significance as other nations’ awards.
“We need to celebrating what is special about our music… It is all about the feeling,” Amard added.
Tickets are USD20 and the Red Carpet is from 6pm/ Noluntu J and Mary Anibal are among performers.
