Winky D music not banned on ZBC

The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) has dismissed the social media viral zeitgeist which has said Winky D’s music has been banned from radio.

In a statement, the public said:

The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation has noted with concern unfounded messages circulating on various social media platforms alleging that there has been a ban on Winky D’s songs on the ZBC platforms.

ZBC is a public broadcaster and is guided by the philosophy of leaving no one and no place behind.

It should be categorically stated that we do not discriminate against any music artists.

Our quick take

We would have been surprised if Winky D had been banned from ZBC. After all the whole zimdancehall ethos is about social commentary. The likes of the late Soul Jah Love, who was unapologetically Zanu-Pf sang songs that were charged and they were played. Winky D’s previous albums have had songs which have been edgy an still played.
