What to expect from the New Showmax when it launches, and football fans will be excited

MultiChoice has communicated what to expected from the relaunch of its groundbreaking streaming service Showmax.

A new version, using the Peacock technology will go live in 2024, which means a chance to the website and the app.

It means current users will get a notification with instructions after they have been moved to the new platform once it becomes available.

And yes, that includes you, Zimbabwe.

So what is coming? Well the new plans are what caught our eye.

These are the Entertainment Plan and the Premier League plan. And then a combination of both!

Entertainment

  • Watch local and international series, movies, kids’ shows and more
  • Stream on up to two screens at the same time or download to save data
  • Stream in HD or save data with viewing-quality settings

Premier League

  • Every Premier League match live from SuperSport on mobile
  • Match highlights, fresh fan content, talk shows, interviews and more
  • Stream in HD or choose a viewing-quality setting to save data

Entertainment + Premier League

  • Watch local and international series, movies, kids’ shows and more
  • Every Premier League match live from SuperSport and more on mobile
  • Stream in HD, download or save data with viewing-quality settings

The mobile-only plan will interest quite a few, but here are the restrictions you should know.

  • Content cannot be watched on computers, smart TVs or game consoles.
  • Casting is not enabled (AirPlay, Chromecast).
  • You can stream on one mobile device only.

As for how you pay, Zimbabweans will have the standalone via Mastercard or Visa. And for DStv customers, they will be able to continue using the popular Add-To-Bill function.

Earlier this year, MultiChoice Group and Comcast’s NBCUniversal and Sky today announced a new partnership that will bring some of the world’s best content and technology to streaming customers across MultiChoice’s 50-market footprint in sub-Saharan Africa, at a time when Africa is approaching an inflection point in terms of broadband connectivity and affordability. The new Showmax group will be 70% owned by MultiChoice and 30% by NBCUniversal.
