What To Expect From Fashion Weekend Zimbabwe This year

Fashion Weekend Zimbabwe is on at this end of the mont and we have some exciting things to tell you about it.

First of all the dates and the where . Friday 24th October to Sunday 26th October 2014 at the Barclays Sports Club Mount Pleasant, Harare.

What will be happening?  Launched in 2013, Fashion Weekend is Zimbabwe’s essential shopping, music and food event, an annual event that merges fashion, music and food; primarily promoting fashion.

An opening event with be held on the eve of the event, on Friday 24th October. The opening entitled LUXURIOUS VIP BLACK TIE CHARITY EVENT is brought to you in partnership with LUX (Unilever Zimbabwe) and is proudly supporting charity Shingirirai Trust. 5% of ticket sales from the opening event will be donated to Shingirirai Trust, an orphanage supporting over 200 orphans. The full weekend then commences on Saturday 25th October featuring grand live music performances from Cathy Mhlanga, Chris Wright, the Djembe Monks and a spoken word ensemble by Vokal DaPoet. Also on the carte du jour is the fashion market, the beauty hub and the food market which we anticipate to be the best shopping experience of the year.

The main thrust of Fashion Weekend Zimbabwe is to effectively contribute to the development and future of the Zimbabwean fashion sector, by nurturing and developing local talent. Annually an apt-packaged Designer Development Programme (DDP) is served to emerging designers to contend over a three month period. The emerging designers then showcase their capsule collections at the official opening night, in this case, the LUXurious VIP Black-Tie Event. The emerging designer brands for this year are Mamoyo by Pamela Mashanda, Zoe by Thandie Mguquka, 7:30 by Tanaka Leroy Samukange, Brie by Bridget Nyathi and House of Davidson by Tanaka Davidson Ndawona. A winner will be selected at the closing of Fashion Weekend Zimbabwe, walking away with the FWZ Designer Talent Award and major prizes that will enable them to kick start their career. Last year’s Award was won by Samantha Natasha Matemadombo.

Established designer brands to look forward to this year are Yanai by Tapiwa Mudekunye, Moi Amara by Jenika Shah, #NDNM by Gwi Mabika, Kun’anda by Fatsani Kulera, Haus of Stone by Danayi Chapfika, Gilded Sands by Aobakwe Molosiwa from Botswana and William Bobongo from France.

So now what?

Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased from UMAX Kiosks or directly from Fashion Weekend Zimbabwe. The LUXURIOUS VIP BLACK TIE CHARITY event tickets are $30; general entry is $5 for adults and $2 for kids. All fashion show tickets are $10 each.
