‘Walker, Texas Ranger’ star Clarence Gilyard Jr dies

Clarence Gilyard Jr known best for his portrayal of Jimmy Trevelle in the 1990s TV series Walker, Texas Ranger has died.

The University of Nevada Las Vegas’ College of Fine Arts, where Gilyard was a film and theater professor, shared the news but gave no cause of death.

He was 66.

Other than Trevelle, Gilyard Jr was also famous for his performances as smart-talking tech wizard Theo on Die Hard, Sundown in Top Gun,  Conrad McMasters on Matlock among others.

But for Zimbabwean viewers, he will be remembered as being Chuck Norris’s partner on Walker, Texas Ranger.

After that role, he too a break from acting and focused on his academics.

UNLV film chair Heather Addison said: “Professor Gilyard was a beacon of light and strength for everyone around him at UNLV. Whenever we asked him how he was, he would cheerfully declare that he was ‘Blessed!’ But we are truly the ones who were blessed to be his colleagues and students for so many years. We love you and will miss you dearly, Professor G!”
