“There is no club better than Sankayi”, declares bullish Gnimbi before opening

Genius ‘Gnimbi’ Kadungure is given to ostentatious expression of opulence in what he does.

And his new baby Club Sankayi located corner Kwame Nkrumah and Sixth Avenue is the latest investment into lifestyle.

A scoop of journalists were invited to a pre-launch cocktail. A gang of workmen still making installations but you could see the intent going into this project.

On the delay Gnimbi said:

It is unfortunate we did not finish everything on time but me and my team sat down and decided to go ahead with the plan to host all the journalists. We would not be here if you are not there. The club is not ready, not yet finished. However, if you come for the opening tomorrow (Thursday) same time it will be working. If we did not do it tonight there was no chance. We could not open it to the public before you.

A worker on sight told us that everything that was being put up had come boxed, brand new. The flashing lights, the settees, the lit dancefloor (the actual flow has flicking lights), solid granite bar and more attest to an investment of note,

Gnimbi says he is challenging the order:

Once you step into Sankayi, you will never go to any other club. There is no club better than Sankayi.

The club will open from Thursday to Sunday and as for the issue of security raised, Gnimbi said street lights would be installed in the area with heavy presence of personnel.

Our thoughts? Well we have needed more clubs in the city for a while. Most places are just chill-out venues that end up with a DJ playing music. Sankayi will add to the night life in Harare. What he will be wary of, is parking. For some that will be a put-off but here is hoping he has a plan.

It remains to be seen whether he will make it the best club in Harare but if he fails, it will not be for lack of trying. And this being a man who tends to get what he wants, this will bare knuckled fist fight.
