6 companies granted free-to-air TV licenses announced

The six companies that have been granted TV licenses have been announced with some big names expected, left out.

The six announced by the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe at a press conference held at the Zimbabwe Media Commission are

  • Jester Media T/A 3k TV
  • Zimpapers T/A ZTN
  • Rusununguko Media T/A NRTV
  • Acacia Media T/A as Kumba TV
  • Fair Talk Communications T/A KeYona TV
  • Channel Dzimbahwe T/A Channel D

The big losers that will come as a shock are HSTv and AB Communications.

A total of 14 companies made bids for the licenses.

The new licensees have 18 months to roll out their plans and go on air. Should they fail to do so, their licenses will made available to other applicants via a process.
