With a perfect blend of sophistication, animation and liveliness the Jibilika All Elements Cypher lives up to it’s much deserved hype each and every year.
This year’s annual hip-hop nolstagia fest happened at Batanai Mall in Harare on Saturday, 26 November 2016.The event was a fun-ride and it offered a wide variety of activities including b-boying, mceeing, beatboxing, breakdances , dance and rapping tutorials. Despite creative tweaks this legendary hip-hop festival remains a major draw for hip-hop enthusiasts in the subway scenes.
The calibre of perfomers was generally very impressive. Nevertheless, some notable acts were regretably forgettable. Here are six relive-able moments that would be remembered for being outstanding at this year’s edition.
B-Boys Epic Battle
This was an exceptional act. Both groups (missed the names) delivered a set after set of ferocious b-boys, snarling demonic howling energy. They battled for eleven minutes until it was so heated that Probeatz has to call it off. Jibilika is a movement giving voice to the enthusiasts of one hip-hop’s lesser celebrated talents.
Probeatz Classic Sessions
The multi-award winning beatboxer put his own twist on the turntables like always. His style is an electric mashup of all things cool. Kicking off with Notorious B.I.G’s Hypnotize, Pro went on to deliver other colourful classic jams verses. Everyone cheered , that was classic.
MC Chocho gets emotional
The Chitungwiza young star of rap almost drew tears in spectators. His slow delivery and thought-provoking bars got us wondering why he is still underrated.
Fungi Chana Dance tutorials
I never wanted to be a dancer so bad until that day. Fungi is an expert dance director and a brilliant choreographer. He taught us different styles of dances, so vast, yet my favourite was the Harlem shake. What a time to be alive.
The Mixxy Episode
What else can you expect from the mistress of twerking? Nothing other than an extraterrestrial sensual pleasures. After lighting up fellow girls, the queen of twerk took to the stage and showed us what she knows best – getting down. Cries from the fellas in the audience and he punctuated it all by declaring thats she was single. Phwoar.
Subzero, Probeatz and the “Why” part
This whole episode was out of this world. Subzero also graced us with his valuable services. Started by beatboxing, he later left the tables to Probeatz who unflinchingly played his mouth electrically. Sub and other b-boys get on the platforms showcasing their credible different styles. The arena got saturated until a certain b-boy performed “magically ” stirring up a joyful noise leading up to Probeats to ask why he did it. Gosh, my moment.
