British-Zimbabwean breakout start Regé-Jean Page will not be making a return to season two of Netflix’s Brdgerton series.
The news of the Duke of Hastings’s departure was confirmed by the show’s Twitter account sayin Page had ‘triumphantly played’ the role. The role got him his first gong, the NAACP Image Award.
The show’s Lady Whistledon added, “We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family. Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer – more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear.”
Phoebe Dynevor, who plays the Dutchess, will thus remain on the show.
The ever-gracious Page said via his personal Twitter acoount, “Pleasure and a privilege! An honour to be a member of the family – on and off screen, cast, crew and incredible fans – the love is real and will just keep growing.”
The second season of Bridgerton will chronicle the pursuit of a suitable marriage for the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), as chronicled in the second book of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series, The Viscount Who Loved Me. Anthony’s love interest, Kate Sharma, will be played by Simone Ashley, according to deadline.com.
Bridgerton is Netflix’s most successful series with 83 million households streaming it.
We think this loss of the Duke will hurt quite a few people when it comes to the heartthrob’s departure. We wonder if it will hurt the show.
