Prince Kudakwashe Musarurwa, musician, Harare, Zimbabwe. 1988-2020

Prince was an artist with genuine talent and a lovely energy. Heartbreaking to wake up to the news that he is gone. I have no words.

Hillary Musarurwa:

Sinyoro Prince Kudakwashe Musarurwa warwadzisa munin’ina. Rest in Peace mwana wababa. I was praying you would win the battle with lung cancer. Now you’re singing Skokiaan for the angels together with Augustine Musarurwa.

Although we were not “directly” related, I got to engage with Prince as a brother. Not only did we share the same surname and passion for mbira music, we looked a little bit alike. He would refer to me as mukoma and I’d call him munin’ina or babamudiki. Deep down our souls connected – there was a relationship down the genealogical lines.

Dr Charlton Tsodzo (publisher and author):

Prince Kuda Musarurwa…waenda muzungu…zorora Sinyoro….the cool jazz crooner wedzinza redu gone just like that …you fought hard hako iwe Moyo…hazvinei…Nyamatatse ikuvhenekere Muroro…sleep easy guy…robonga…

Nigel Pfunde (journalist):

I was saddened in learning of musician Prince Musarurwa’s death.I wrote a few articles he deemed bad but may his soul rest in power,I hear he was a victim of cancer. Cancer has became the biggest enemy.#loyal to the game

R. I. P PRINCE KUDA MUSARURWA

God’s band in heaven has become stronger, ours has been weakened…

Just hearing the sad news of the passing of Mbira player & song writer Prince Kudakwashe Musarurwa. He is one young man who was genuinely in love with his culture, part of group of young people involved in a silent revolution of bringing back pride in our African Roots.

He rose to fame when he collaborated with his Mzukuru Pah Chihera on her debut album
