No, ‘The Queen’ is not moving and ‘Muvhango’ is not cancelled

South African popular soapies, The Queen and Muvhango are staying put where they are.

This came after tabloids last week ran stories that said Muvhango was to be cancelled and The Queen, which is on DStv’s Mzansi Magic would take over that slot.

The rumours about about both were a bit strange.

The Queen just got renewed for a new season and still garners great ratings on DStv. They have also just signed and resigned new talent and there was nothing to suggest DStv were unhappy with them.

Muvhango is the most-watched scripted drama series on SABC2 and has a cult following.

There had been a production break over payments but according to Mmoni Seapolelo, SABC spokesperson they have signed Muvhango up for another season:

All SABC programmes are subjected to evaluation based on a number of factors, including audience ratings, associated costs and relevance to the market. To this effect, the SABC is pleased to have signed a new contract for Muvhango for another season.

You then wonder where that little bit of news came from. Or was someone negotiating, thus playing gambit?

Who is to know?

But as SA entertainment guru Kgopolo Mphela says, you don’t think you have to deal with that sort of rumour.
