A new Supermodel competition was launched at the Hyatt Regency Hotel (ex-Miekles) in Harare this week.4

It will see scouts scour the country to get talent via auditions in six cities.

It all kicks off on 6 July in Bulawayo, before it hits Gweru (7 July), Mutare (20 July), Victoria Falls (27 July) and then Harare (24 August).

A semi-final is slated for 5 October in Harare, culminating into a grand finale on 1 March 2025. 20 finalists will take part in it and have automatic contracts with the Supermodel agency.”

“The winners will gain international exposure and model contracts while working for international brands and and agencies,” a statement read.

Other than the contracts, the top 20 will be groomed, including understanding the basics of contracts.

Organisers present, Karin Ćorić, Tanya Chikuni and Paidemoyo Chideya were keen to stress that this was not a pageant but a search for something ‘authentically’ Zimbabwean.

There are restrictions however.

  • The competition is open to Zimbabweans aged 16 and above (there is no upper age limit)
  • For the catwalk competition, the minimum heights are 1.80m for females and 1.85m for males
  • The competition is exclusively for Zimbabweans

There is a face of Supermodel competition which does not have height restrictions.

Key to this is the Wear Zimbabwe campaign, with a gala later this year only open to people who were a piece of clothing made in Zimbabwe.

The organisers also announced that they would be featuring videos and experiences of people who have been trafficked from Zimbabwe, highlighting something which put a stain on the modelling industry.

Legendary advertising guru Gary Thompson served at the Director of Ceremonies at the event exuding his signature passion.
