MUSIC VIDEO REVIEW: Enzo Ishall – Ndanzvenga

Enzo Ishall does fancy himself an action star doesn’t he?

And in this latest video, for his offering Ndanzvenga, he exhibits his ability to run and also do some action things. Now whether he does all the stunts himself is a matter for another day, as he covers his face a lot as he fights.

Whether he does indeed or not, well that is neither here nor there, because it is great to see music videos chase the narrative storytelling more. Sure, we have some of it happening in bits and pieces, or massive scale when we look at Jah Prayzah, but this effort by Enzo has loads to chew on.

The use of the Reps Theatre more often for costumes is good to see. It is a heavily underutilised resource.

We find a lot of deliberateness in the costuming, although we are keen to figure out the paintings. Amusing, because the way Enzo is dressed, he would represent the cults which came with colonialism almost to the tee.

And the painted folks would have been the savages, probably fighting for liberation.

But all the while, it is an interesting video.
