MUSIC REVIEW: Draze – Mazvita

Draze drops a new single and some visuals to boot for a song called Mazvita.

The beat and the chorus has fundamentally Zimbabwean inspiration, the sound layered, even though it does not achieve the complexities of what you get from the likes of Jnr Brown, Asaph and Tanto Wavie when it comes to the fusion.

In this instance, he uses the marimba. He was taught how to play the instrument by his father, the legendary Dumisani Maraire.

The sound Draze has got therefore does have some minimalism, in a sound style that offers a much fuller, richer sonic experience.

The lyrics are of his fundamentally American experience. And we are not knocking him for it. Hip hop is where you’re at. And that is bona fide experience.

But it is dope that he is coming round to fusion of traditional sound and hip hop.

The move is on.
