Jamaican reggae star Busy Signal has mentioned former Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe among Great Men (and women) who have been ‘fighting for ours’.
The song is called Great Men, a dub conscious reggae track.
Among others named are Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Oprah Winfrey, Fidel Castro, Marcus Garvey, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Che Guevara, Malcolm X, Rosa Parks and others.
Mugabe was president of Zimbabwe for 30 years after until he was removed via a military intervention in 2017 after he was succeeded by his longtime ally Emmerson Mnangagwa. Before that he was prime minister from 1980 to 1987.
He still retains a large amount of support in Africa and its diaspora because of largely pan-African views, particularly standing up to the West, which made him a marked men in their capitals.
Since his removal, he has largely been away from the public eye.
Mugabe turns 95 this year.
