We caught up with the beautiful LadyTshawe and she shared an exclusive moment with us.

What is your government name?

Nomashawekazi Michelle Siqabuziwenkosi Damasane

What do you like to call yourself?

It really depends. Its either my full name Nomashawekazi or Tshawe

What is the most ridiculous nickname you have ever had?

I got the nickname Shake-shake in high school (story for another day) and it has stuck to this day.

Which side of the bed do you sleep on?

I alternate between the middle and left side

Are you left-handed or right-handed?

Right-handed

What is your favourite instrument?

I have more than one! The bass guitar and saxophone. Ooooo and the piano 🙂

What is the first song you fell in love with?

Two songs.

First song would have to be my dad singing Ozali Nzambe. He’s such an awesome singer (biased view of course)

Secondly its Percy Sledge’s When a man loves a woman. (still my ultimate favourite love song)

Best concert you have ever been to?

Voice of Glory (VOG) Doing life together concert. those who were there may think im a tad bit biased but i looved that concert. Hahaha on a real, i dont have an ultimate best concert. I have a musical show that gave me the goosebumps. The Zambezi Express show that was done by our very own, Siyaya! That show was beyond amazing, the choreography, vocals were on point. I really felt like joining them on the stage, thats how awesome it was.

Of the poems you have written which one is your favourite?

I love all my poems! If i had to choose one it would have to be ‘When she becomes the I that i see in Me’. The technique and style of this piece of poetry is very different from my other pieces. I actually had fun writing this one. i actively chose to sit down and write a poem (which rarely happens). Twas one of my most challenging pieces i must say! Love it!

How do you deal with groupies?

I actually get shy and excited when I meet people who like my work.

How excited were you when the first groupie hollered at you?

There was a lady who apparently had been following me for a bit. She made sure i got to meet her and recited to me one of my poems word for word (and i struggle to recite my own, lol) and i remember being so gob-smacked and at a loss of words i cried. Felt so humbled and extremely shy, you would swear i WAS her groupie.

Where is Zimbabwean music going?

I feel like theres a shift in the positive direction within the music industry in the country. In the past year i have silently watched the musicians of Zim and how active they have been in regards to their music. We all know the challenges that artist have in this country, yet those challenges havent stopped us from pursuing the dream. We really are moving to the top. Im excited about the growth and best believe the industry is still yet to grow bigger

Where is your music/poetry going?

Not many people know about LadyTshawe. So my music and poetry is definitely going to be make people aware of this short dread-locked lady called LadyTshawe. As a performing artist I am definitely planning to bring my own unique flare to the entertainment industry in the country! I believe that in the months to come my poetry, music, dance, acting will be a breath of fresh air and wave of light in the entertainment industry.

What do you want to be remembered for?

I want to be remembered for simply being a woman who was founded in her faith and identity which then spilled over into each area of her life. Need to be remembered as a person who gave life and love through her various gifts and talents.
