On MMT, Simba Tagz And Nu Alliance’s #Shoko13 Performances

Friday night’s Shoko Festival programme saw MMT, Simba Tagz and Nu Alliance Make their debuts at the festival.

It was held on the Chiwoniso Maraire Stage at WaterWhirld, where ZiFM’s Ruvhi Parirenyatwa and Star FMs J-Boss hosted the evening’s show.

Diverse local and international musicians took the stage to entertain the large turn out.

I review the first three acts of the evening.

Hip Hop group MMT, kicked off the evening with the controversial Wake up. A part of me was not sure if the crowd was going to vibe with it, but they had fun with it. However, despite the punchlines and mentions, they also removed and re-wrote some lines, especially the one that mentioned a certain Zimbabwean female DJ. They also performed two new tracks and the crowd favorites, Young Nashlee assisted on the singles Party Yatanga and Zvidhori. Their performance overall gets an 8 out of 10 rating.

Simba Tagz then carried the torch from MMT by doing  some of his notable singles. Surprise guest, Tehn Diamond came on to perform the song Make Me Proud. Other notable tracks he performed were Go Ahead, Ka Life and Please Don’t Leave Me. However, I was kinda disappointed that he didn’t perform the recent Reverb7 song he featured on, Tisu Tine Yese joint. Ah well, however it was a good set. This performance gets a 7 out of 10 rating.

Next on stage was the duo Nu Alliance. Their music is some-what on the mellow, soulful conscious Hip hop tip. However as soon as they went in deep into their first song, a large part of the crowd lost interest and wandered off. Even the photographic media guys who were literally stepping over each other to get good pictures of the preceding acts, didn’t snap as much pics of the duo. However, I’m sure on wax, their music is alright but in terms of stage presence and engaging the crowd, the performance was poor and therefore gets a 4 out of 10 rating.

Shoko Festival runs until 22 September.
