A High Court hearing in which jazz sensation Dudu Manhenga is seeking bail pending an appeal against sentencing has been moved to Tuesday.
The 32 year-old singer was found guilty of culpable homicide and driving without a valid license on her own appeal and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Justice Hlekani Mwayera moved the hearing after Manhenga’s lawyers failed to file their papers correctly.
According to The Herald her lawyers:
- Failed to provide the court with with a transcribed record of proceedings. She only filed a record that was written in long hand, which the court felt was not legible enough.
- The court also wants the musician to file an original notice of appeal and to properly paginate the record.
While the courts say they fear that Manhenga will abscond, the fact that she has stayed in Zimbabwe all along waiting for the trial to take place will count in her favour.
