Jamaican Court of Appeal frees Vybz Kartel

The Jamaican Court of Appeal has made a landmark decision to free dancehall star Vybz Kartel and his associates.

Real Adijah Palmer, Vybz, along with his co-accused Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St. John found out that they would not face a retrial after another count found irregularities in a 2014 conviction over the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

“Having regard to all considerations the court has taken into account, we conclude that the interest of justice do not require a new trial to be ordered for the appellants” said Justice Marva McDonald-Bishop. “We therefore make the following order: judgments and verdicts of acquittal are entered in relation to the appellants.”

Vybz leaves prison after serving 13 years out of a life sentence.
