Jah Master got it wrong, but whoever was running that show has questions to answer

Dancehall sensation Jah Master is in the middle of a controversy after a video of him kicking a fan off stage surfaced.

So first of all, let’s deal with that. Jah master from his apology on Monday has admitted that his behaviour was unacceptable. He knows it, so there is no point in taking that conversation forward because, yeah, you know, it’s what’s there.

The thing very few have talked about, is why he had to resort to that. Why did the artist have to feel he needed to protect his working area?

If you look at the stage, he is isolated on his own bar for those in the back taking videos. Fans are frighteningly close to the stage which means, goodness forbid if we go back to 2014 when artists were pelted with cans, he is exposed.

We have no knowledge of what transpired before but that Jah Master starts off far from him indicates he feels exposed. He is in defence mode, left to figure it out for himself when it should really be the stage manager and so forth making sure the space is safe.

Again, the kick is wrong. He probably should have walked of stage and demanded from the organisers that the fan be removed from stage. After all it is his working area. It is essentially like a banker working in a vault and random strangers keep walking in, making it difficult to execute his duties.

The stage is meant to be a safe working space. It should not have to take a deranged lunatic getting onto stage with a knife and stabbing an artist for whatever reason for this to be taken seriously.

Artists fall under serious scrutiny in their line of work. But as much as they look like they are having fun, that stage is their workplace. They work hard to deliver you a show and all they ask for is a safe workspace for it.

Oh and fans, please don’t get on stage. You might know the artist, but for him or her, it is the equivalent of walking into your office and finding a stranger dancing on your table.
