Ammara Brown has opened up about the unsavoury encounters she has had going through crowds.
In a tweet she said that her security was a major issue behind she did not stop for pictures when going through them crowds.
I have been molested in public before while WITH security. 10 men can’t hold 1000. Some days it is impossible to meet the fan halfway.
Saying yes to 1 means 10,50,100 behind them. Must my safety be compromised?
Ammara opening up was caused by a response to a tweet by Yvonne Maphosa on how celebrities had responded when met by fans.
A user, @amawayne, said that they had an experience for which they could not forgive Ammara. This was during the march that took down former President Robert Mugabe:
Oh that one. Met her at Zim Grounds on that remove Mugabe march. Said “Hi Ammara, good to see you here. May I have a selfie please” and she simply waved me away. Didn’t even say Hi back just an “ibva pano hamba” wave, next moment she was taking pics with slay queens..It hurt.
Ammara then said:
I denied 95% of selfies that day as there were thousands of people, and I had no security.
I’m not sorry.
Having been behind the scenes on some occasions when Ammara has performed, we relate. There was a time she performed in Masvingo, Getting onto and off stage had no other way but through the crowd. The logistics were a nightmare and even then hoards of crowds were trying to touch and grab her. Sure some are just enthusiastic fans but in those crowds are lascivious individuals.
Now for a woman who is pint-sized this is massive scare. Add to this, the natural vulnerabilities she has as a woman.
It is a struggle out there.
