Hatred For Pokello Disappointing, Strange Really

So Pokello Nare has been in the Big Brother house for a few days now but what we find weird is the amount of hatred she is getting on Facebook.

Quite naturally a lot of it is coming from women. Add on top of that the men who think she is linked ZANU-Pf   –  even if she is so what? – and so use that as a reason to hate her.

Look, Pokello has been known to rub a few people up the wrong way. She has admitted to a temper but we see her as more of a straight talker than anything else. Sometimes she gets it wrong but she is sincere. Perhaps she has a chip on her shoulder but we all do, some to a lesser extent than others.

That said even if she has a particular dislike that we are aware of for Three Men On a Boat, that is not a reason to hate the poor girl. She is a Zimbabwean and we are beholden to supporting her in whatever she does because whether one accepts it or not, she represents us. Whatever she does out there is something we will co-sign because at the end of the day, mwana wedu.

What we find absolutely horrifying is the amount of lies on Facebook being written about her. One of the most disturbing was the one allegedly linking her to Reserve Bank Governor Dr Gideon Gono. The person who put it up claimed that Pokello admitted to a relationship on Big Brother. Yet, nothing like that happened. Disturbing, was the willingness of fellow Zimbabweans to spread that bare-faced lie as truth. It went out onto Whatsapp and started being posted in tiny little blogs.

We are better than that. We can’t reduce ourselves to being rumour mongers no matter what we think of the person. We let ourselves down. That is not a reflection of who we are.

As for Pokello and the other Zimbabwean participant in the reality TV show, Munyaradzi Hakeem Mandaza, we are right behind you. We won’t really be watching Big Brother as much as our sisters, but whatever you do, it’s all about that Zimbabwe pride.

Vakagona tofara tose. Vakanyadzisa tonyara tose. Ngabantu bethu laba. Impilo yabo ngeyethu.
