The Zimbabwe Jazz Festival makes a return to the Harare entertainment calendar this Saturday at the Alliance Francaise.
Having skipped the 2018 edition, we were keen to see another one make its way onto the scene after a successful debut.
Now we are particularly excited this edition for thee four reasons:
- Dudu Manhenga is back on stage: We have not seen the jazz goddess on a Harare public stage in too long. Having her on the stage is just dandy and awesome. She is pretty awesome at what she does and we just missed her regal nature around jazz music.
- The bands from outside Harare: Talk about The Outfit, The Cool Crooners and The Travellers being on the bill. The first edition had only Harare bands. This one expands to Bulawayo and Gweru in its lineup.
- The fathers and sons acts: Bob Nyabinde and Sons, Mono and Son as well as Filbert Marova and Son. Sounds like those general dealer outfits. Seeing fathers and their sons in the same trade is awesome and we are super keen on this.
- It is actually happening: The fact that we did not have one before for an art that is often mistaken for comatose is awesome. The genre simply struggles for airplay on radio and in particular for local artists. That it has a stage and a massive subscription is dandy.
