The legal landscape is constantly evolving, and keeping pace with emerging sectors is crucial for lawyers seeking to stay ahead of the curve.

Recognising this, the Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) is leading with its first-ever Creative Legal Training program, specifically designed to equip lawyers with the expertise needed to serve the thriving creative industries space.

For Zimbabwe’s economy, the creative sector holds immense potential. From music and film to fashion and design, these industries are not only generating revenue but fostering cultural expression and innovation.

However, navigating the legal intricacies of this dynamic field can be challenging, requiring specialised knowledge and understanding.

Lawyers need an intimate knowledge of the industry in the context of Zimbabwe and its nuanced space.

LSZ’s training program steps into this gap.

Ms. Chenesai Mangoma, a prominent advocate for the creative industries, has joined forces with the LSZ to develop this groundbreaking program.

As a strong advocate for integrating legal expertise into the creative sector, Ms Mangoma expresses her excitement: “I am thrilled to see the Law Society recognising the importance of the creative industries and their contribution to job creation. Equipping lawyers with the necessary knowledge will ensure they can effectively serve this sector and contribute to its sustainable growth.”

The program, scheduled for July 31st, 2024, caters to lawyers interested in delving into the legal aspects of the creative industries.

Participants will gain insights into various topics, including intellectual property rights, contracts specific to creative fields, regulatory frameworks, and dispute resolution within the sector. Through interactive sessions with industry experts and legal practitioners, participants will develop a comprehensive understanding of the unique legal landscape surrounding creative endeavours.

The potential benefits of this program are multifaceted. Lawyers with specialised knowledge can carve successful careers in the ever-expanding creative industries.

In turn, this fosters a legal ecosystem that caters to the specific needs of creative individuals and businesses, ultimately contributing to the sector’s sustainable development and job creation.

The global value of the creative industry sits at USD985 billion per year, of which Africa contributes US5 billion. But it is growing, and the opportunities for Africa to breathe into the world with agency are increasing.

The LSZ’s Creative Legal Training program signifies a landmark step towards bridging the gap between the legal profession and the vibrant creative sector in Zimbabwe. By empowering lawyers to excel in this dynamic field, the program paves the way for a flourishing creative economy and empowers legal professionals to contribute actively to this exciting growth. Lawyers interested in shaping the future of the creative industries are encouraged to register for this program and be part of this groundbreaking initiative.

Remember, the program takes place on July 31st, and registration details are available through the Law Society. Don’t miss this opportunity to be at the forefront of legal expertise in the burgeoning creative industries of Zimbabwe!
