Popular tabloid H Metro is reporting that ZimDancehall star Enzo Ishall was beaten up by his wife.
According to the report this was over female dancers in his music video promo for the song 50 Magate. He is said to have sustained bruises on his face.
The report also alleges that this is not the first time the Kanjiva singer has been beaten up by his wife but that it had intensified after his profile blew up thanks to a string of hits.
No reports have been made to the police as Enzo apparently refuses to press charges.
Intimate partner violence against men is rarely reported and is largely unrecognised in society.
And yet a men’s rights group study from 2010 claimed about two in five of all victims of domestic violence in the UK were men, contradicting the widespread impression that it is almost always women who are left battered and bruised.
In 2012, two Swedish studies were released that showed men experienced IPV at rates similar to women—8% per year in one study and 11% per year in the other.
While some countries have strong data, a lot of states ignore this form of domestic violence defaulting to a female victim/male perpetrator problem narrative. And with persistent reluctance of males to report abuse because of gender constructs on machismo, the correct numbers on prevalence are hard to come by.
