Elvas Mari has quit his post as director of the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe the organisation has confirmed.
The resignation came into effect on 16 March according to a communique signed by board chairperson Professor Herbert Chimhundu.
Mari it said pursuing interests outside the arts after serving the organisation for 16 years.
Mari Joined NACZ as Assistant Director for Arts Promotion and Development in January 2002. He was promoted to the position of Deputy Director in March 2005. Due to his leadership qualities in fostering development and promotion of arts and culture in Zimbabwe, he was elevated to the position of Director in November 2009, the position in which he served for 8 years before tendered his resignation.
He was credited with spearheading initiatives National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA), Jikinya Dance Festival and Culture Week, among others, to promote the arts in Zimbabwe.
However, his office has come under pressure particularly to do with the NAMAs whose credibility has waned.
