Zimbabwean bassist and singer, Edith WeUtonga Katiji, has made history after she was elected as vice president of the International Federation of Musicians.
The announcement was made by the Zimbabwe Musicians Union, which she serves as president.
The union also says she makes history by being the first African woman to be appointed to the position.
Edith, in response to the news, said, “On Africa Day…. I was elected into office…..what a day for the Africans, and for women in particular! Hear hear to @Zimusicians for the grooming!”
The International Federation of Musicians, founded in 1948, is the international organisation for musicians’ unions and equivalent representative organisations. It is now counting about 70 members in 60 countries throughout the world.
