It was a great night for a Bulawayo girl when she scooped the Best African Pop Album at the Metro FM awards this weekend.
Berita Khumalo’s debut album Conquering Spirit was voted as the best in a tightly contested category featuring the likes of Unathi and Zonke.
The 21 year-old who is pretty much unknown in her home country has had critical acclaim from her 10-track album produced by well-known gospel artist Thami Mdluli. Likened to multi-award winning star Zahara, Berita also plays the guitar and sings afro-soul in Xhosa as well as isiNdebele. Her song Thandolwethu is probably as central to her meteoric rise as Zahara’s Loliwe.
We hope that some promoter will be bringing to these neck of the woods soon.
