As tracks from Winky D’s Njema album leak, we just wonder…

Winky D’s album which drops today at a concert called The Final Shutdown.

The show is at the Rainbow Towers Hotel and Conference Centre (Formerly HICC) and his fans are on edge, excited about his new offering.

Now if you follow social media you will see people commenting on tracks purportedly from the album, with preferences already being made by his legion of fans and those not so much.

In some WhatsApp groups, there are more tracks finding their way and it would seem that the album has been hit by a huge swathe of piracy.

That is, of course, assuming it is the real one.

Now some would say, well, Winky D gives us the album ‘for free’ on YouTube or Spotify. And yet he makes money off those platforms thanks to plays. Your sending a bunch of files to your friends really doesn’t help his pocket. There is this whole idea that the songs need to make their way into the people, but Winky D does not really need that much assistance to go viral.

Which then makes us wonder…

Have Zimbabweans become so casual about piracy that very few think of the investment that has gone into the body of work? Are the copyright so flimsy that while other countries would have an artist of this stature in a country cake it when they release, there is no protection here?

Meaning, if Winky D, makes very little money from this album and is not able to produce another album in the future, will you still comfortably blame him for his losses, when you happily forwarded his music to other people without paying for it?

So in essence, stealing from him, and blaming him for being a victim.

Think about it…
