So there was the time she dropped Night of The Queen and if you attended her shows you would hear a lot of it. That haunting mbira intro and added to it the urban sound. It was an embedding in a different way from we had accustomed to in the sound. Her voice was fastened to the music, contemporary influences strong:
Soon after that, with the help of Naked DJ we had Hotta. This one had a bit of love in the early days of radio and was cut from the same cloth as the above. Less haunting, more infectious, the laugh at the beginning a precursor to a high energy dancehall excursion.
For all the drama around it Crucify Me or at least the one minute 20 seconds of it was a great song. The focus was on the artwork but the daring storytelling, devoid of virtue except in the confession, the multi-layered structure of the song. It was a song we enjoyed deliberately:
We know we said three but special mention for this track with Botswana rapper Zeus called Passport Stamps where her hook was succinct, engaging. His flow is nice but that Ndikabhururu-ka. We were like, Andy Brown’s loving this wherever he is.
A couple of tracks she was on include Like My Music with Fuzzy L and Roar Zim Roar with Tinashe Makura.
