‘Americanah’ series from Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong’o not moving forward

Americanah, Lupita Nyong’o’s passion project based on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s best-selling novel of the same name is not moving forward on HBO Max, Variety is reporting.

The series for which Danai Gurira had written the pilot and would serve as showrunner has been set aside due to scheduling conflicts for Nyong’o.

The 10-episode limited series had been cast and ready to go before the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the world in March 2019.

With stars like the Oscar-winning Nyong’o normally booked in advance for work, there is very little room to manouevre once windows are missed.

Also cast for the series were Uzo Aduba, Corey Hawkins, Zackary Momoh, and Tireni Oyenusi.
