When his management Walter Wanyanya the next big thing, the future of Zimbabwean music, we figured it was just the kind of talk that comes with minders.

Bryan Kadengu or Bryan K as he is called  has an album that we gave a good listen to.

Called Nyaya DzeRudo it is his a debut offering, a mixture of genres, an expression of an artist who loves different types of music and is not afraid to have a go.

All the songs, reggae, afro-pop or house have that strong ethnic influence and it places him geographically, a selling point.

The 8-track album is a testament to love, a departure from lame songs that pass for love songs. Bryan K writes well and does so with emotion, with belief and as genuinely as one should exercise in these issues. Some of it does feel a bit fantasy but when Bruno Mars sang Grenade he wasn’t really appealing to the sensible part in us.

The standout track for us is Marunjeya. It feels like something you would sing, a classic love song, sung from modern voice inflections.

For a first effort he does well to get people feeling something. That is the point of music after all. The multiple genres make the album difficult to set a mood,  a continuous one, but we will let him have that.

Tracks to download:

  • Marunjeya
  • Jamaican Girl
  • Usasiyane neni
