A week in, ‘MNet Binge The Home HBO’ is actually a vibe

On 27 March 2020 DStv launched a new pop-up channel called MNet Binge – The Home of HBO on 114.

The channel is available for Compact Plus and Premium subscribers as they go through this dreaded lockdown.

We came across quite by chance while scrolling through DStv Now when we saw good old Ned Stark’s sitting on an iron throne. Gosh, how naive we were back then, thinking he would one day substantively sit on it. Good times. An innocent world it was.

Anyway, we voraciously went in on those classic moments including, yes, when they chopped off his head and were reminded how much of a little shit Joffrey Baratheon was. Also how the show did tame a bit towards the end. It was much more edgy early days. Snuggled up in bed, we went back to the days when calling your sweet little love Khaleesi was a thing. What was it, my sun and stars? My moon? The stallion who will mount the world? *boilk*

Now lying in bed watching like naughty schoolchildren at boarding school in bed because we cant go out, it is a different feeling. A bit the same but different.

Anyway, then we had a look at what else was there and for the life of one, there was Sex And The City. Sexual liberty looked so interesting back then when women started feeling they could be liberal about it. Of course we had never watched but it was interesting all the same. A vibe. And those clothes they wore. Chris Noth, the hard man of Law and Order being charming as Mr Big? Who would have known?

Some of the other shows were Six Feet Under, The Newsroom and others from what some called The Platinum Age of TV. The writing was fascinating, the storylines very mobile and engaging moving away from linear characters before it became mainstream to do so.

Seven days a week from 18.00hrs to 06.00hrs. 12 hours because if you know those shows, they can be racy.

So like naughty kids again we are, and with the government allowing us a drink we swig like Tyrion, and chant, For the night is a dark and full of terrors.

Or maybe tweet it. Or go Carrie except without the restaurants and all. Maybe to do it later, to remind us how fragile society is and how much we really need other people.

A whole vibe we think and with 15 days to go in Zimbabwe’s lockdown, it is a vibe.
