Today, Shoko Festival presents the roast of Norton MP Temba Mliswa.

And it is going to be hectic and you know it.

What you need to know

It is happening at Reps Theatre in Harare from 6pm-8pm

Comedy lovers will be in for a two hour rib cracking treat which will feature a star studded cast that include self-proclaimed heavenly army commander, Prophet Madungwe, the Queen of HipHop Kikky Badass, Bustop TV’s Lucky Aaron, musician Vimbai Zimuto, celebrity Lorraine Guyo,  comedian Ckanyiso Dat Guy and the hard-hitting political satirist Comrade Fatso. Veteran Stand Up Comedian, Carl Joshua Ncube is the new addition to the cast of the roast.

Simuka Comedy Creative Director, Doc Vikela will be the roast master for the evening.

What we might see

The Temba Mliswa Jokes

There are a few to hit him. The way he talks, his tendency to fight with the Chinese and some very rich people, his 19 kids, the Susan Mutami saga (including the whole five fingers thing), other alleged affairs, his time in rugby, the outbursts in parliament (chaora chinhu ichi) and a lot more. There is a lot, so much that you hope that people use the full spectrum. Otherwise there could be some repetition. But some of that stuff is what he owns in public so in the words of Eminem, “What good is it gonna do against a man that strangles himself?”

The jokes Temba Mliswa will tell

There are a lot of people of which he make fun and he will have his pick when he retorts.Well, this is where it gets tricky. Mliswa is prone to outbursts, so the question will be whether he will stick to script or something will touch a nerve and will result in him hurling insults and not roasts. For those who have the uncensored version of roasts on Comedy Central, it can get awkward.

The crowd

Roasting is pretty new to Zimbabwe so it will be interesting to see their interpretations. Some people will feel jokes may have gone too far but this is a comedy show and it must be stressed that it is not personal. Unless it is personal like it got between Sol Phenduka and Nadia Nakai on the Comedy Central Roast of Khanyi Mbau.

Tickets are USD5.
