Poetry Slam At #Shoko14

On Saturday the 27th of September the Shoko Festival international poetry slam explodes to life between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm at Alex Sports Club in Milton Park Harare.

Artists such as Crystal Tettey (Ghana),Sir Black (Ghana) Frank Langmack (Denmark) Zimbabwe will be represented by Black Anakin, Aspya, Godobori and Rae Lyric will take part. The slam will be hosted by Aerosol, real name Tinofireyi Zhou. The competition will be complemented by performances from Buddie Wakefield and Ra Brown, both from the United States of America.

The poetry slam,in its fourth year, has seen international poets from countries such as Germany, Canada, Botswana and South Africa contest, making it one of the biggest spoken word platforms in Africa. The list of former Shoko Festival poetry slam champions is as follows Mandisa Mabuthoe (Botswana) 2011, Afurakan (South Africa) 2012 and most recently Masai Dabula (South Africa) 2013.According to Wikipedia a poetry slam is a competition in which poets read or recite original work. These performances are then judged on a numeric scale by previously selected members of the audience.

Shoko Festival is Zimbabwe’s fastest growing international arts festival. It will feature electronic dance music, DJ parties, hip-hop, dancehall, comedy, spoken word, new media discussions and workshops. Shoko is produced by Magamba Network and is set to come alive from the 25th – 28th September 2014.
