South Africa Police have charged Olympics and Paralympics star Oscar Pistorious after he shot and killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Thursday.
Earlier on there had been indications that the shooting was a case of mistaken identity but the Police spokeswoman Denise Beukes has since said that this theory did not come from them. She also added that there had been reports from neighbours of shouting earlier on Wednesday evening. She said police had been called to the house on previous occasions after reports of “a domestic nature”.
Police expect him to apply for bail when he appears in court in Pretoria on Thursday afternoon, which they plan to oppose.
Steenkamp, 30 and Pistorious, 26, had been dating since November last year.
UPDATE: National Prosecuting Authority confirms Oscar will not be appearing in court today. He will spend the night in jail.
