Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor Dr John Mushayaanhu has said that the demand for the new ZiG currency will be high in the next two months.

He made this claim while appearing before a joint portfolio committee on Budget, Finance and Investment Promotion and Industry and Commerce.

“We understand the dynamics of such an issue remember these are speculative tendencies but let me assure you come June ZiG will be on high demand and this will further strengthen the currency,” he said.

The bedrock of this is increasing the ZiG’s ability to purchase other key commodities and services, which he says is in progress.

Critics have been vocal about the government still quoting a lot of its services US Dollars, a move seen by some as a lack of confidence of the new currency.
