Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161) just announced a new drama, Ha Molefi, coming this June.

Here are our three reasons to check it out.

  1. A heartfelt story of grief and healing: Ha Molefi explores the emotional journey of a father and son coping with the loss of their wife and mother. Witness their struggles and triumphs as they navigate their grief and try to reconnect. What we glean especially from this is the complexity of what is often unspoken, where grief is never talked about after death.
  2. Celebrating Identity and Dreams: The show follows Thabang, a young man embracing his individuality and pursuing his passion for Ballroom/Vogue dancing. See him draw inspiration from his late mother and fight to achieve his dreams. The father has to deal with aspects of his son, which often were out of sight, because his wife would deal with them. Add to that, the mother was a music sensation in the 90s.
  3. A Look at Father-Son Relationships: Ha Molefi delves into the complexities of a father-son bond. Witness Ntate Molefi’s love for his son challenged as he learns to embrace Thabang’s identity and offer more than just acceptance. Father-son relationships are rarely intimately explored on TV, especially from the atypical perspective.

TJ Mokhuane plays Thabang Molefi, the son, while the father, Ntale, is portrayed by Dingaan Khumalo/DSK.

Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels, calls it an ‘inspirational story… and we hope that it will inspire’.

Ha Molefi premieres on Monday 17 June at 20:00, Mzansi Magic DStv channel 161.
