Prominent opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has called the new ZiG currency, ‘a bond note by another name will not fix our challenges’.

“Zimbabwe needs political change not a currency change.” Chamisa posted on X account.

Instead of introducing a structured currency, we need a conversation that produces a Citizens-backed structured political change and new government,” he added.

“Currency change has failed before. And it surely will fail again. All this, because of broken politics, disputed elections and contested national processes.

Chamisa, who stood and last year’s Harmonised Elections as a presidential candidate, has refused to accept the results.

He says currency reforms, as announced by the new Governor Dr John Mushayavanhu, were destined to fail like those before, absent ‘good politics’.

The government’s latest move is another attempt to arrest inflation and create a stable exchange rate.

Some think it will work. Chamisa clearly is not a fan.
