Tuskers – 394 and 194-2 in 77 overs (Samiullah 62*, Brian Chari 52*, Nkosana Mpofu 50; Victor Nyauchi 1/20, Wellington Masakadza 1/66)

Mega Market Mountaineers – 272 all out in 76.3 overs (Donald Tiripano 129*, Wellington Masakadza 53, Salman Mirza 17; Luke Jongwe 3/30, Ainsley Ndlovu 3/49, Ernest Masuku 2/44)

Day 3 – Stumps: Tuskers lead by 316 runs

Donald Tiripano compiled his highest first-class score for Mega Market Mountaineers at Takashinga Sports Club on Saturday, but with so little support he could not prevent Tuskers from taking a first-innings lead of 122 runs.

Tuskers built on this advantage by scoring 194 for two wickets in their second innings, and by the close of play had earned an overall lead of 316 runs.

Tiripano began the day with 93 to his credit, and the Mountaineers total was 226 for eight wickets.

He completed his excellent and valuable century with the number 10 batter, Victor Nyauchi, at the crease and tried to shield him and the last man, Tendai Chatara, from the bowling while he scored as many more runs for his team as he could.

However, Luke Jongwe picked up the wickets of both his partners, leaving Tiripano unbeaten with 129 at the close of the innings, beating his previous best score of 121 – it is his fifth first-class century.

He faced 156 balls and hit two sixes and no fewer than 23 fours, and the team total for Mountaineers was 272.

The most successful bowlers were Jongwe and Ainsley Ndlovu, who both took three wickets.

Tuskers went in again and scored 194 for two wickets by the close, off 77 overs.

Tanu Makoni scored 26 of an opening partnership of 57 with Nkosana Mpofu, who was out for 50.

Then Samiullah and Brian Chari scored 62 and 52 not out respectively by stumps in an unbroken third-wicket partnership worth 103 at this stage.

None of the four batters had a strike rate of 50 in their innings, and if Mountaineers show some fight with the bat on the final day, Tuskers may come to regret their complacency.

Rhinos – 316 and 239 all out in 67.5 overs (Tarisai Musakanda 66, Takudzwanashe Kaitano 55, Remembrance Nyathi 52; Jalat Khan 6/70, Takudzwa Chataira 2/34, Dom Bess 1/23)

Southern Rocks – 417 and 6-0 in 1 over (Takudzwa Chataira 2*, Roy Kaia 0*)

Day 3 – Stumps: Southern Rocks need 133 runs

A fine bowling performance by Jalat Khan has given Southern Rocks an excellent chance of securing a third Logan Cup victory on the final day of their match against Rhinos at Old Hararians Sports Club.

Khan took six wickets for 70 runs as Rhinos compiled a mediocre score of 239 in their second innings, after falling 101 runs behind in the first.

Overnight Rocks had 382 runs with eight wickets down, and with William Mashinge scoring 46 not out, they took their total to 417 before the last wicket fell.

The most successful bowlers were Mike Chinouya and Muhammad Adil, who took three wickets each.

In their second innings Rhinos lost their openers, Ben Curran and Bright Matsiwe, for 17 runs between them, but the next two batters, Takudzwanashe Kaitano and Tarisai Musakanda, scored 55 and 66 respectively.

When they left Remembrance Nyathi took over with a fifty of his own, making 52 and defying Khan, who in three overs removed Nyasha Mayavo, Victor Chirwa and Neville Madziva to make the score 175 for seven wickets.

Adil gave Nyathi better support by chipping in with 22, but Rhinos could manage a total of only 239, with Khan taking the last wickets for his bag of six.

There was only time for one over to be bowled before the close, Takudzwa Chataira facing Chinouya and scoring two runs off it.

With Rocks facing a target of only 139, it will need an exceptional performance from Rhinos on the fourth and final day if they are to pull this match out of the fire.
