Zimbabwe held their final training session before their departure for the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup Qualifier Africa in Namibia.

All players were present as the Dave Houghton and his charges went through their paces at Harare Sports Club on Friday.

Here are things we picked up from that training session.

The possible opening partnership

The team spent a lot of time playing in the middle simulating match conditions. Craig Ervine and the new kid Nick Welch spent a lot of time batting together. They did a lot of running between the wickets and making calls. This may suggest that they could be the opening partnership for Zimbabwe. After wards Wessly Madhevere had a session with both suggesting him as a possible number three. But again, this might just working out options.

The fielding work on the ground

There was a more aggressive fielding attitude than we have seen in recent times. Even fielding coach Eric Chauluka said he was satisfied with the intensity. And a lot of shies at the stump in trhe simulated game conditions hit the stumps.

Shots

From Madhevere and Ervine’s timing to Ryan Burl and Welch’s swashbuckling, there was a lot of clear-hitting with the ball. There was a rhythm and the look of a bunch of lads ready to have a go.
