Uprising – 230-7 in 20 overs (Brian Bennett 46, Aisha Chibanda 43, Takudzwanashe Kaitano 41; Bright Njanji 2/31, Frank Mazviita 2/39, Fortune Mhlanga 1/20)

Westside – 105 all out in 13.3 overs (Bright Njani 28, Definate Mawadzi 22, Tafadzwa Ngulube 12; Brian Bennett 3/15, Dylan Hondo 3/18, Luke Jongwe 2/24)

Uprising won by 125 runs

Another good all-round performance by Brian Bennett helped Uprising to burst the Westside bubble at Old Hararians Sports Club on Friday and send them tumbling to their first defeat of the NPL T20 Blast competition, by 125 runs.

Westside were to regret putting their opponents in to bat, as some consistent batting enabled them to build a total of 230 for seven wickets in their 20 overs.

Nick Welch again gave his team a scorching start with 35 off 20 balls, and then Bennett with 46 off 29 balls and Takudzwanashe Kaitano with 41 off 20 plundered the bowling ruthlessly.

The biggest partnership was that for the sixth wicket of 65 between Aisha Chibanda, 43 off 21 balls, and Luke Jongwe, 26 off 17.

Of the bowlers, only Vincent Masekesa with one for 27 off four overs escaped severe punishment.

Westside briefly prospered in reply, with Definate Mawadzi scoring 22 and Bright Njanji 28, but then Bennett and Dylan Hondo cut through the later batting and they tumbled to 105 all out in the 14th over.

Bennett took three for 15 and Hondo three for 18 as the batters hit out desperately and unsuccessfully at the end.

Takashinga Patriots 2 – 206-4 in 20 overs (Tashinga Musekiwa 64*, Baxon Gopito 45, Antum Naqvi 29; Robert Chiminya 2/45, Daniel Jakiel 1/39, Brandon Mavuta 1/44)

Rainbow – 67 all out in 13.1 overs (Nyasha Mayavo 15, Lavert Masunda 12, Richmond Mutumbami 11*; Antum Naqvi 5/9, Trevor Gwandu 2/22, Wallace Mubayiwa 1/4)

Takashinga Patriots 2 won by 139 runs

Tashinga Musekiwa played a brilliant innings of 64 not out off only 20 balls to rescue Takashinga Patriots 2 from an awkward position against Rainbow on their own ground on Friday, leading to a 139-run victory by his team.

Baxon Gopito gave the hosts a useful start with 45 off 36 balls when they were put in to bat, but his partners did less well, and Takashinga were moderately placed at 117 for four wickets in the 16th over when Musekiwa went in.

He changed the whole aspect of the match by hitting seven sixes and three fours in the remaining overs to take his team past 200, to finish on 206 for four wickets.

Rainbow in reply lost three wickets for 19 runs, two of them to Trevor Gwandu, and although Lavert Masunda (12) and Nyasha Mayavo (15) briefly put up a stand, a worse collapse to Antum Naqvi saw Rainbow dismissed for 67 in the 14th over, with Richmond Mutumbami’s talent wasted on 11 not out.

Gwandu had two wickets for 22, while Naqvi’s remarkable spell at the end brought him five wickets for nine runs in 3.1 overs.

Amakhosi – 117-7 in 20 overs (Keith Ndlovu 49, Tawanda Mhora 18, Tanatswa Bechani 11; Tanaka Chivanga 3/22, Tapiwa Mufudza 2/10, Richard Ngarava 1/17)

Takashinga Patriots 1 – 118-2 in 12.5 overs (Roy Kaia 60*, Hamilton Masakadza 38*, Joylord Gumbie 10; Thabo Mboyi 1/18, Ernest Masuku 1/36)

Takashinga Patriots 1 won by eight wickets

Roy Kaia and Tanaka Chivanga turned in match-winning performances to help Takashinga Patriots 1 to an eight-wicket victory over Amakhosi at Kwekwe Sports Club on Friday.

Amakhosi were put in to bat, but their opener Keith Ndlovu was the only batter really to come to terms with the Takashinga bowling.

Tapiwa Mufudza took two early wickets, but he could not stop Ndlovu scoring 49 off 47 balls, although no other man on the side could reach 20.

Chivanga took his wicket, and two more in quick succession, to help send Amakhosi from 96 for three to 117 for seven, scarcely a score to challenge the might of Takashinga.

Roy Kaia was in fine form right from the start, and although he lost two partners quite cheaply, he teamed up with Hamilton Masakadza in an unbroken winning partnership of 75 in eight overs.

Kaia scored 60 runs off 38 balls and Masakadza 38 runs off 28, both not out.

Gladiators – 190-7 in 20 overs (Ashley Mufandauya 105, Milton Shumba 40, Clive Madande 24*; Tendai Chatara 4/23, Nkosilathi Nungu 1/15, Donald Tiripano 1/58)

Mutare Sports Club – 137 all out in 18.1 overs (Donald Tiripano 68, Nigel Bonyongwe 44, Spencer Magodo 6; Phase Mukabeta 2/17, Milton Shumba 2/18, Malcom Chikuhwa 2/21)

Gladiators won by 53 runs

In a second match at Takashinga Sports Club on Friday, a superb innings of 105 off 60 balls by Ashley Mufandauya was the main factor in Gladiators’ 53-run victory over Mutare Sports Club.

Like two other teams in the day’s other matches, Mutare followed the trend of putting their opponents in the bat, and lost.

Mufandauya opened the batting for Gladiators and although he lost Wessly Madhevere for six, he enjoyed an excellent 111-run partnership for the second wicket with Milton Shumba, who scored 40 off 33 balls.

Clive Madande weighed in with 24 not out, while Mufandauya was finally caught for 105 after batting five sixes and six fours, Gladiators totalling 190 for seven wickets.

At the end, however, Tendai Chatara nearly accomplished a remarkable feat with the ball, in his last two overs twice dismissing batters with successive deliveries and taking four wickets in five balls.

Except for one partnership the Mutare innings was a disaster, as they lost their first four wickets for only eight runs, two of them to Malcom Chikuhwa, and a fifth at 27.

Donald Tiripano and Nigel Bonyongwe fought back well to add 92 for the sixth wicket in less than 10 overs before Tiripano was run out for 68 off 44 balls, with four sixes and five fours.

Bonyongwe made 44 off 32, but then the tail collapsed and Mutare were hustled out for 137.
