Northerns Women won by 22 runs

A late burst of bowling from Mitchel Mavunga overshadowed a magnificent century by Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, leading Northerns Women to a 22-run win over Southerns Women in a regional one-day match.

Chasing 218, Southerns looked to be well set, even as Mugeri Tiripano fell on a run-a-ball 110. The score was 189 for the loss of four wickets with over 17 overs to go.

Six wickets fell for just six runs, with Mavunga accounting for three and her fellow teenage star Kelis Ndhlovu the other two.

Earlier, Tasmeen Granger hit an unbeaten half-century for her side when they were put in. She built on earlier efforts by captain Mary Anne Musonda (46) and Chiedza Dhururu (34).

Granger put on a 90-run partnership with Nomatter Mutasa Ziyambi who made 33.

The second match is on Wednesday, with the third scheduled for Friday.
