No curfew in Zimbabwe’s CBDs – ZRP

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says there is no curfew in place in Harare’s and other Central Business Districts (CBD).

This is after heavy police presence was seen, particularly around the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Command Centre at Rainbow Towers as well as their offices.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police dispels reports of a curfew or any form of disturbance in the country as peddled by some individuals and groups on social media,”said their press release.

“The Police dismisses false reports claiming that certain roads in Harare are blocked by law enforcement agents. The public should feel free to conduct normal day-to-day activities not only in Harare but throughout the country.”

The ZRP did admit that, “Police officers are conducting motorized and foot patrols in Central Business Distrcts, residential, industrial and other areas.”

That said a couple of night spots announced self-imposed curfews after reports of some violence at some places.

Trucks with police officers could be seen making rounds in areas of the Harare CBD.

With experiences around police patrols during enforcement of pandemic restrictions, it is easy to see why people have felt disinclined to be out and out late.

In their view, while no official curfew was not in place, a de facto one was what they felt.

This is Zimbabweans wait with bated breath for the announcement of results in what is expected to a disputed Presidential election.
